PSVR2 price cut deal is back in stock, this might end up being the best $399 you've ever spent

Black Friday deals in March, say less.

Sony's PlayStation VR 2 has been a tough sell since launch, not because it's a bad product—far from it—but because it's been an expensive one. Now, that's changing. Sony has officially slashed the price of the PlayStation VR2 headset to $399.99 / £399.99 making it a much more competitive option in the VR space.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to jump into VR on PlayStation, this is probably it. Major retailers have already updated their listings, with retailers now offering the PSVR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle at the new $399.99 price point. Amazon did originally sell out (hardly surprising), but it’s now back in stock. So, if you’re interested, you might want to move quickly before stock starts disappearing again.

VG247’s Tom Orry gave the PSVR 2 a strong review over a year ago, praising the experience while acknowledging VR’s inherent hurdles for mainstream appeal. I’ve since spoken to Tom again, discussing the new price drop, and he's just as excited about the VR headset as he was at launch:

"While PlayStation VR2 didn't turn out to be the huge hit it could have been, that's not because of any problems with the hardware itself. Now available at over £100 less than its launch price, and with compatibility with VR games on PC (with an additional dongle), it's easy to recommend if you want to dive into VR. New games are coming to the platform every month on PS5 and there's a large back catalogue of titles to choose from. If you gel with what PSVR2 offers, it might end up feeling like the best £399 you've ever spent."

One of the biggest shifts for PSVR2 in recent months is its growing flexibility. While it was originally locked to PS5, Sony released a PC adapter last year, letting you use the headset for SteamVR games. That’s a huge deal, effectively turning PSVR2 into one of the most versatile VR headsets out there.

At $399.99, PSVR2 is finally at a price that makes sense for more players. For that price in the US, you’re getting the headset along with Horizon Call of the Mountain. It’s still not the cheapest way into VR, but it’s no longer the hardest to justify. Whether that’s enough to push it into the mainstream is another question entirely.
