How to unlock Mage Towers in Elden Ring Nightreign
Find the Mage Runes to gain access to some powerful loot for spellcasters.

Mage Towers are landmarks in Elden Ring Nightreign that offer useful bonuses for magic-based builds – but, while looting is a big part of Nightreign's roguelike gameplay loop, you can't simply rock up to a Mage Tower and collect the goodies inside.
Before you can collect the loot inside, you need to unlock each Mage Tower by completing an environmental puzzle of sorts. These mini challenges aren't so much difficult as they are hard to locate in the first place, which is why we've put together this list of solutions for how to unlock Mage Towers in Elden Ring Nightreign.
How to unlock Mage Towers in Elden Ring Nightreign
Mage Towers in Elden Ring Nightreign are unlocked by destroying the Mage Runes nearby. The challenge really lies in finding these runes in the first place, because — while you'd think a blue glowing symbol would be fairly easy to spot, some of them are hidden rather deviously.

Below we've listed all of the Mage Rune locations we've discovered so far; we'll update with more if-and-when we find them!
- Above the main doorway (it's not always difficult).
- Behind a patch of breakable bricks on the side of the tower.
- In the water at the side of the tower.
- On a mobile treestump that runs around the tower environs.
- In a nearby bush (you need to run through the bush to see the rune).
- On a fake imp statue in front of the tower.
- If none of the above are present, the tower will be open, but with a sealed door further inside. Enter the tower to find the rune upstairs opposite the sealed door.
Mage Towers aren't the only ambient problem you can solve in exchange for loot, so be sure to take a look at our guide to breaking glowing statues for more rare drops!
